Arena will make use of MLS players

New United States national team coach Bruce Arena has indicated that he will be taking full advantage of the talents that play in the Major League Soccer.

Indeed the national team is planning a training camp in January that will allow the new coach to assess the resources he has at his disposal.

Bruce Arena said that he estimates that there are around 10 to 20 players that currently play outside the United States and that might be eligible to play for the national team. As a result, he feels that the majority of the players will be coming from the Major League Soccer.

When asked whether players playing in European leagues are better than the ones in the Major League Soccer he said that it all depends on whether the players are getting enough playing time. He said that you might be in the biggest club in Europe but if you are spending most of the time on the bench then this might not be useful. Continue reading “Arena will make use of MLS players”

After reaching 2nd place last season, Columbus Crew has disappointed

During the 2015 campaign of Columbus Crew, they managed to secure the 2nd spot of the Eastern Conference after being able to collect 53 points in 34 matches but it has been a completely different story in the latest season in 2016.

In the season of 2016, Columbus Crew has underwhelmed in comparison to their previous campaign after only being able to secure 36 points in 32 matches and the manager of the club Gregg Berhalter has expressed his disappointment in how his squad has been performing as the 43 year old American manager said:

“We had high expectations this season and it’s plain and simple, we didn’t meet those expectations and we’re disappointed. I told the guys it wasn’t about tonight’s game. If we would have had that type of intensity that type of effort all season we would be having a different conversation.”

Columbus Crew even managed to reach the finals of the 2015 MLS Cup where they faced off with Portland Timbers and ultimately lost 1-2 but nonetheless it was still an achievement being able to reach so far and coming so close to win the piece of silverware.

Caleb Porter takes Blame for Loss against Orland City

Caleb Porter says that he will take the blame for the 4-1 loss against Orlando City on Sunday.

This was an extremely disappointing result for the team and many felt that Portland Timbers allowed Orlando to score at crucial stages. Rather than blame the players for a winless run that now stretches to 3 matches,Porter claimed the blame on himself. The club started the campaign in impressive fashion after a win over Columbus Crew in the opening weekend. Even though Portland Timbers had much more of the ball even as the away team, they were unable to make much of an impact in the final third.

To make matters worse, Orlando City seemed to be buoyed by the return of superstar Kaka. They were playing some impressive football in the final third. Orlando made sure that their good start to the season continued with this win. The team are unbeaten in the four games and it would have taken a huge effort from Portland in order to get something out of the game. Porter will be aware that his team have to recover quickly, as they have a big match against LA Galaxy next weekend. Porter claimed that the first goal deflated the team immensely and defensive strength will be something that he will look to improve before next match. Peter Vermes fumes at the match officials after losing against Colorado Rapids

Sporting Kansas City sustained their 3rd successive defeat in the MLS on August 30 after facing off with Colorado Rapids which was played at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver.

The final scoreboard of the game was 2-1 with the home team claiming the victory but the manager of Sporting Kansas City was not satisfied on the decisions that the match officials made during the game, Peter Vermes stated that his team deserved more from that game and that it wasn’t their opponents who won, it was the guys who were refereeing the encounter.

Peter Vermes voiced his frustration towards the match officials of the game as he said: “Did we deserve more out of this game? Yes. The other team didn’t beat us. What beat us was the guys who are supposed to be the impartial guys reffing the game. They are the ones that beat us, for the second week in a row.”

The match was tightly contested between both teams but Sporting Kansas City had the upper hand in possession by a slight margin as well as with more shots being launched. Continue reading “Peter Vermes fumes at the match officials after losing against Colorado Rapids”
